Charlotte Higgins, chief culture writer of the Guardian and the author of Red Thread: On Mazes and Labyrinths(https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/1110297/red-thread/) , explores the significance of the labyrinth and its myth through literature and art through her keynote talk, The Biformed Labyrinth.

Like the Minotaur that inhabits it, the labyrinth has two natures. On the one hand it is regular, aesthetically satisfying, the perfectly formed manmade object. On the other it is a prison and a trap, a place of disorientation and terror.
